Palantir and Common Mission Project Join Forces to Drive Impact
We are thrilled to announce a new partnership between the Common Mission Project and Palantir Technologies to multiply the power of our Impact Fund, a fund that enables students to accelerate their learning beyond the traditional classroom, engaging directly with real-world challenges and innovative problem solving.
The Common Mission Project’s Impact Fund is vital for enhancing the practical learning experience of students on our H4 courses. Palantir recognises the importance of active user engagement, and with their support, we are able to distribute funds directly to student teams to facilitate visits to government organisations, trial solution ideas, and build prototypes. This collaboration is grounded in a shared vision: leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovation to solve complex societal problems.
Polly Scully CBE, Senior Counsellor at Palantir, states that Palantir’s mission is “to change the mindset in Defence - especially around pace. By leveraging CMP’s agile, entrepreneurial mindset and Palantir’s powerful data tools, we aim to accelerate the pace at which innovative solutions are developed and implemented within the Defence sector and beyond.”
Accelerating Impact and Contributing to the Allied Innovation Base
With Palantir’s support, Common Mission Project was able to accelerate a University of Leeds student team working on a joint Royal Navy and U.S. Navy problem centred around improving levels of engagement, retaining key talent, and developing hidden skills within their fluctuating workforces. Palantir’s donation to the Impact Fund funded this team’s visit to Navy HQ in Portsmouth, where they validated their “Minimum Viable Product” (MVP) with potential users and obtained feedback to iterate on their solution. They were also able to hold multiple interviews with the Personnel Support Group for further problem validation. This team conducted over 70 interviews to validate, test, and make progress on their government Problem Sponsor’s problem.
What is significant about this team is that they worked alongside another team of students from William & Mary University in the U.S., who worked on the same problem in the U.S. Navy. Their progress, enabled by Palantir’s support of the Impact Fund, meant these two groups were able to present their findings at the London Tech Bridge in May to an audience of UK and U.S. Defence senior leaders and industry professionals. Their presentation actively contributed to the allied innovation base the Common Mission Project is advancing in the UK, US, and Australia.
For CMP, Palantir’s contribution is game changing. “Barriers to access and experiencing the problem first hand are removed, providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of not simply working on a novel problem, but experiencing it as a means to solving it,” explains Dr Ali Hawks, Chair of the Common Mission Project.
We are proud to have Palantir as our leading supporter this year, responsible for advancing the next generation’s talent to solve our greatest challenges.
